It's been a tough year to be a Vancouver Canucks fan. After finishing last season on a 100 point pace, the Canucks started the season horribly and it's just gotten worse and worse.
After failing to come to terms with long-time Canuck, captain Bo Horvat, they traded him last week to the New York Islanders.
Near the beginning of the season, Brock Boeser requested a trade after he was originally scratched for 'Hockey Fights Cancer' night in Vancouver. This didn't sit well with him due to his father passing away from cancer last season.
So Canucks have to watch not one, but two of their franchises best players get traded in the same season.
Canucks GM Patrik Allvin is working the phones hard recently and according to NHL Insider David Pagnotta of the Fourth Period, Boeser trade talks are really heating up:
Some information coming out of All-Star Weekend is that (the Canucks are) very much engaged in trade talks involving Brock Boeser. It sounds like that is progressing, The last time we were told something was coming was sooner than later' and it ended up being three days. I don't think it's going to be that quick. I still believe there's a little bit of work to do with respect to his future, but there are definitely conversations, they're heating up.
Boeser who is still only 25 years old has 9 goals and 30 points in 41 games this season. Reports have been that the teams most interested in his services have been the Washington Capitals, New Jersey Devils and Minnesota Wild. Something that has stalled trade talks though is teams are wanting the Canucks to retain a portion of his salary.
It's also been reported that the Devils could be sending their former 7th overall pick Alexander Holtz, who could arguably become a better player than Boeser, back to the Canucks.
