The NHL is full of superstars, but there are none better than Connor McDavid. According to one KHL coach however, that may not be the case.
Earlier this off-season, it was revealed that Evgeny Kuznetsov was leaving the NHL for SKA St. Petersburg, and after a recent revelation from their Head Coach Roman Rotenberg, it's easy to see why.
When asked about Kuznetsov in a recent interview, Rotenberg revealed this wild statement;
" Better than Connor McDavid?" Rotenberg was asked.
He replied with "- Of course. He has a crazy motivation to prove it to everyone, as he did in the 2018 playoffs with Washington. Then Zhenya became the top scorer of the tournament and won the Stanley Cup."
Rotenberg not only compared Kuznetsov to Connor McDavid, but revealed he believes he's better than the Edmonton Oilers star, all based on the 2018 run to the Stanley Cup, where Kuznetsov was the top scorer in the series. However, it pales in comparison to McDavid's career thus far, as he has won three Hart Trophy's and became the first player in over 20 years to win the Conn Smythe without winning the Stanley Cup.
Given the European bias, it's easy to see why Rotenberg would have this belief, but looking logically, there's absolutely no reason why anyone would consider McDavid to be any less than the second best player in the NHL, and it isn't Kuznetsov ahead of him.
