NHL commissioner Gary Bettman provided an update on the 2010 Chicago Blackhawks coverup of Kyle Beech's assault, providing insight into the futures of Stan Bowman and Joel Quenneville.

Bettman was asked about the future of both individuals by a reporter this morning on media day with Bettman and Bill Daly. Previously, Bettman had revealed that both Bowman and Quenneville would have to be reinstated by the league before they could accept another job. In answering the question, Bettman revealed that both of them have reached out, hoping for a chance to be reinstated. However, he also confirmed that they are still, as of today, not eligible to return to the league.

"Currently, they are not eligible. They both have reached out, seeking an opportunity to come back and that is something that I have to consider."

The update sparked debate among fans once again. Many fans seem to agree that both individuals deserve their lifetime bans. However, a few have argued that Joel Quenneville should be allowed back in the league as they believe he has been a scapegoat throughout this process.

There was distinct pushback on this idea though. Many fans believe that Quenneville shares just as much responsibility for how the Blackhawks handled the situation as anyone else. It is not clear exactly how much Quenneville knew about the situation, but it seems like he played a significant role in the coverup.

As such, most fans would probably agree that it would be best for the NHL if they did not reinstate either individual. That would be simplest and would limit the possibility of further scandals happening.
