The Oilers top trade package for Connor Hellebuyck has emerged

Connor Hellebuyck made his trade request from the Winnipeg Jets official this week, and while the Edmonton Oilers might seem like a long shot, it is worth exploring what a deal could look like.

The three-time Vezina Trophy winner is heading into year three of his seven-year, $8.5 million per season deal, and he has made it clear a fresh start is what he wants.

At 33 years old, he is still considered one of the best goalies in hockey, and his camp has stated his ultimate goal is winning a Stanley Cup.

The Oilers are still built to win now, and adding a goalie of Hellebuyck's caliber would instantly upgrade their crease heading into another deep playoff push.

Edmonton does not have a massive stockpile of draft picks to work with, but stranger trades have happened before around this league.

One version of a deal would send forward Isaac Howard to Winnipeg along with a heavy dose of future first and second round picks, mirroring the type of package that got the Mikko Rantanen trade done a couple seasons back.

Another option would have the Oilers moving recently acquired goalie Devon Levi, along with prospect Viljami Marjala, sending Hellebuyck the other way and reuniting him with former Oiler Stuart Skinner in Winnipeg's crease for the foreseeable future.

A third scenario centers on defenseman Beau Akey and forward Connor Clattenburg, both promising prospects who could appeal to a Jets team looking to restock its pipeline for the years ahead.

None of these packages are guaranteed, and there is no indication the Oilers are actually engaged in any real talks right now, but Hellebuyck's camp has signaled he is open to wherever his next chapter takes him.

The coming weeks and months should reveal whether Winnipeg finds a taker willing to pay the steep price for a true difference maker in net.
