Max Domi has some happy news to share after a rough few months. The Toronto Maple Leafs forward announced on Instagram that he is engaged to longtime girlfriend Estelle Phillips, posting a simple caption reading "I love you so much" alongside a photo showing off her new ring.
Leafs Latest was among the outlets celebrating the milestone. Estelle confirmed the news on her own account shortly after, revealing the proposal happened on her birthday.
The engagement comes as welcome news for Domi, who spent much of the summer dealing with a frightening recovery.
Toronto Sun columnist Steve Simmons first reported that Domi's spring back surgery did not go as planned, leaving him unable to walk in the days following the procedure.
Domi reportedly chose his own surgeon for the operation rather than going through the team's medical staff.
A Long Road Back
The good news is that Domi can now walk without issue, though his recovery is ongoing.
His availability for the start of the 2026-27 season remains uncertain, with an evaluation expected once training camp opens.
Toronto's revamped sports performance department, led by Andy O'Brien, is expected to design a phased return once Domi gets medical clearance.
Domi played 80 games for the Leafs last season while managing the injury that eventually required surgery, finishing with 12 goals and 24 assists.
Toronto added forward depth over the summer, giving new head coach Jim Hiller flexibility if Domi is not ready for opening night.
For now, fans and NHL peers alike are focused on the good news.
A wave of congratulations poured in from around the league following the engagement post, a reminder of the respect Domi has earned both on and off the ice.
