Moritz Seider is a 20 year old rookie who is in the runnings for rookie of the year. Drafted in 2019 by the Detroit Red Wings 6th overall, Seider has done everything but disappoint in his first season with the Wings.
When Seider was drafted, people questioned Yzerman's opinion because many of the ranking lists had Seider as a late first round pick mid-20's yet when it comes to spotting talent, you can never deny the Yzerplan. Yzerman obviously saw something in this young prospect that many others were missing, and what he saw he absolutely paying off for the Red Wings now with 40 points in his first 54 games.
While this may be a stretch to compare him to yet, but this young rookie is already being compared to a former Wings captain, legend, all-star defenceman Nicklas Lidstrom who suited up for 1564 games in a Wings uniform, scoring 1142 points and was also named to the top 100 players of all time. Lidstrom as a rookie for the Red Wings also scored 40 points in his first 54 games. Coincidence? It's hard to believe its already been 10 years since we saw Lidstrom in the NHL.
If Seider continues on this career path and continues to be compared to this Hall of Famer, the Red Wings are going to have one bright future!
