The Edmonton Oilers Risk Losing Two Time 20-Goal Scorer To His Hometown Toronto Maple Leafs
The Edmonton Oilers are at a big risk right now of losing one of their key depth players, and he could be scooped up by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Brown On The Brink Of Being Placed on Waivers
Connor Brown is in a unique spot right now with the Edmonton Oilers given the stipulations in his contract. Brown has a clause in his deal that states if he plays one more game this season, he will be paid $3.25 million next year compared to the $775,000 that he is currently making. This could result in the Oilers placing him on waivers in order to avoid the cap struggle that comes with next year.
SDP brought up Browns deal with the Oilers. It's 775k this year and if he dresses for one more game it's a 3.25M deal next year.
There's a reasonable chance they waive him, he clears, and because no one wants 3.25M next year and he wants an NHL job there's a terminationLeaf?
The rumour is that the Leafs could be interested in picking up Brown off waivers, given their ability to maneuver the cap, and their dire need for some more depth up front.
Brown Had Some Successful Times in Toronto and Could Be In For a Homecoming
Brown was pretty successful for a bottom-six player during his time in Toronto, and being from the City, was able to live out his childhood dream of playing for the Leafs.
During his time in Toronto, Brown had 99 points including 43 goals. He played in 20 playoff games with the team, scoring five points.
If Connor Brown's time in Toronto really is coming to an end, then it will be a bittersweet moment. This goal will define his tenure as a Maple Leaf.
Most kids from the Greater Toronto Area dream of playing for the Maple Leafs.
Connor Brown is living that dream.
Now, it looks like Brown could be getting a homecoming, if the Leafs are willing to take the risk.
