Last year was chaotic for Patrick Kane and the Chicago Blackhawks. Many saw the writing on the wall for Kane in Chicago and after being traded to the New York Rangers, most thought Kane would never play for the Blackhawks again.
Since this, Kane has gone on to sign with the Detroit Red Wings making it clear that he will likely never play in Chicago again.
However, Kane saw a world where he could have returned to the Blackhawks to mentor 2023 1st overall pick Connor Bedard.
Instead, the Blackhawks opted for some different veteran talent: Taylor Hall, Corey Perry, and Nick Foligno. As it stands, Foligno is the only one still playing with the team as Perry had his contract terminated and Hall had season-ending surgery.
With Bedard currently leading the Blackhawks in goals and points with 10 and 18 respectively, he is far and away the Blackhawks' best player. His next closest teammate is Jason Dickinson who has 7 goals and 12 points. Obviously, Kane would have had to miss the first part of the year but having him on a line with Bedard could rejuvenate Kane's career and take Bedard's to new heights.
Sadly this will only be a hypothetical as the Hawks and Kane are now heading down new paths.
