Alexis Lafreniere is one of the most highly touted prospects in the NHL. Drafted first overall in 2020, the youngster has not quite molded into the player people thought he would be after dominating in Junior hockey and at the World Juniors for Team Canada, but as we see from another youngster Jack Hughes this season, sometimes it just takes a little extra time.
When a reporter by the name of Jean-François Chaumont of the Montreal Journal went to interview Lafreniere last week, he found out something completely shocking about the rules in New York.
Luc Gélinas revealed on 91.9 Sports that when the interview started both Chaumont and Lafreniere started speaking french and the Rangers' Public Relations immediately stopped the interview and said if it was to continue it would need to be in English.
Alexis begins to answer him in French and the Rangers' publicist stopped the interview. He said: "If you want to continue, it's in English, there is no French here". The two of them looked at each other, Jean-François obviously thought of sacking his side, but he was paid there to do the interview. They did the interview, Jean-François and Alexis in front of everyone, in English, because Chris Drury refuses that."
It is important to note that the publicist did apologize the next day but this should have never happened in the first place.
