Coyotes goalie Connor Ingram narrowly avoids serious injury

The Arizona Coyotes have had a lot of bad news come their way recently. Last night though, the team avoided more bad news when goaltender Connor Ingram left the game early after a stick poked him in the eye through his mask.

Ingram was effectively high-sticked by Flames forward Matthew Coronato, who was skating past the net on the play. He immediately doubled over while reaching for his face, clearly in a lot of pain. The play was quickly blown dead and he immediately skated off the ice and went down the tunnel with the team trainers.

Weird play. Matt Coronato's stick goes through the eye cut out in Connor Ingram's mask and hits him in the face.

The officials ended up huddling to discuss the play but ultimately they did not call a penalty as none of them saw it. Backup netminder Karel Vajmelka was forced to enter the game although he would only be credited for 3 seconds of ice time as the team quickly pulled the netminder on the following faceoff.

Connor Ingram took a high stick to the head. No penalty.

He's going to the room.

Karel Vejmelka comes in with 2:40 left.

Ultimately though, the Flames would hold on to win 6-5. The team has not officially updated his status as they appear to have shutdown all their social media accounts. However, it appears as though Ingram's injury was not too serious, otherwise we likely would have gotten an update on him from an NHL insider. Ingram has two years left on his contract with the team, coming with a cap hit of just under 2 million dollars.
