The Los Angeles Kings have been off to an up-and-down start in 2025/26, and now they've made the surprise decision to waive veteran Kyle Burroughs.

Back in the 2013 NHL Draft, the New York Islanders took a chance on defenseman Kyle Burroughs in the seventh round, and after spending six seasons in the AHL, he finally got his NHL debut.
That came with the Colorado Avalanche, and since then, the blue liner has played in Vancouver, San Jose and most recently Los Angeles, appearing in 33 games with the Kings a season ago.

In that time, Burroughs has appeared in 201 NHL games, but with just 5 goals and 22 points in that span, he's clearly become a solid depth option that likely won't find a full-time role in the league.
That has now been confirmed by Elliotte Friedman, as the Kings have now officially placed the 30-year old on waivers as they look to re-assign him to the AHL's Ontario Reign to keep the depth in the organization.
While he's not been very productive, experienced NHL depth is something that plenty of teams around the league are looking for, and given that they could pick him up for free, there's always a chance that rival teams are looking at Burroughs as a solid option.
This season, Burroughs is yet to appear in a game for the Kings, and with the team not having a full-time place for him on their blue line, the hope is that he passes through waivers and if they find themselves with a role on the blue line, he'll be a solid depth piece to come in at that time.
