The New Jersey Devils are seemingly falling apart, and now, GM Tom Fitzgerald has taken responsibility for the failure of a season thus far.
The New Jersey Devils had a red-hot start to the 2025/26 season, and given the star power they've got up and down their lineup, they were confident of a post-season run even in the incredibly tough Metropolitan Division.
However, things have fallen apart, with Elliotte Friedman suggesting that things in the Devils locker room may be beyond saving after the failed blockbuster trade attempt of Quinn Hughes.
Tom Fitzgerald takes responsibility for the Devils struggles
Now, General Manager Tom Fitzgerald has officially taken responsibility for the way things have gone as of late, and given that it was him that asked players to waive NMC's to land Hughes, he's likely right that it was his fault.
That doesn't mean he's ready to give up on the season however, as he also revealed that he and Sheldon Keefe are on the same page, with the team still eyeing a blockbuster trade and the Stanley Cup Playoffs as the ultimate goal in 2025/26.
Currently, the team are sitting at 23-21-2 as they currently sit in sixth place in the Metro, but with just six points sitting between them and the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, they're still well and truly in the fight.
As of right now, it's unclear whether or not the team have a blockbuster trade to make and whether that could turn their season around anyway, but given the stars the Devils have leading the way, it's easy to see why they're optimistic about turning things around over the next few months.
