The New Jersey Devils have been in a tail spin as of late, and now there's been suggestions that this team can't be fixed in 2025/26.
Heading into the 2025/26 season, many saw the New Jersey Devils as a legitimate contender in the Eastern Conference, and early in the year, they were certainly playing like it.
As of late however, the team on all three levels have begun to falter, and with Jacob Markstrom especially struggling in net, they've lost eight of their last 10 games as their season threatens to come off the rails completely.
Elliotte Friedman gives Devils fans little hope
When recently addressing the team, Elliotte Friedman brought up the Devils failed pursuit of the third Hughes brother in Quinn, because during that process, several players were asked to waive no-trade clauses.
Unfortunately, the team didn't get the job done in landing Hughes, and as a result, there's plenty of bitter feelings in that locker room, and as a result, Friedman has suggested there may be no way to fix that.
It's very clear to me that the whole Quinn Hughes situation just damaged their internal workings, business got out, no-trade clauses used; I don't know how you fix that. - Friedman
Recently, there's been speculation that this team could look to shake things up with a big time trade, but given that this is how they got into their situation in the first place, it's unclear who they would be willing to target and who they would want to move in that situation.
Ultimately, we've not heard specifics on anything going down in the locker room as of yet, but with the season falling apart on the ice and the brewing drama behind the scenes, things could get ugly in a hurry for the Devils.
