The New Jersey Devils were ready to go all in for Quinn Hughes, but after failing, GM Tom Fitzgerald is still looking to make a significant trade.
This season has been a rollercoaster for the New Jersey Devils and their fans, as the team started off 2025/26 red-hot, but following the speculation around Quinn Hughes, their success has taken a major nosedive.
Despite having both Jack and Luke on the roster, the team couldn't land the third Hughes brother, and as a result, speculation has emerged that things in the locker room have not been good since this failed blockbuster.
New Jersey Devils eyeing major upgrade
After losing eight of their last 10 games, the Devils are ready for things to change, with Insider Darren Dreger now reporting that this team is looking for a 'significant' trade, potentially eyeing a major change in the Devils top-six.
[GM Tom Fitzgerald] is trying to shake things up...in a significant way, he's looking to add a forward, a top six piece; the problem is...the market from a trade perspective is a little thin and quiet right now. - Dreger
It's unclear as of right now who the Devils could be targeting and just what they're willing to give up to make it happen, but if Fitzgerald and the front office believe in this group, this could be a deal that shocks the hockey world.
On paper, the Devils still have a very strong top-six that includes Jack Hughes, Nico Hischier and Jesper Bratt, but if they want to turn their season around and contend for a post-season spot in the Eastern Conference, it's clear that they need to make a blockbuster move, and soon.
