Pierrick Dube was once an intriguing Canadiens prospect, but after spending this season in the KHL, he terminated his deal to return to North America.
Back in 2022/23, French winger Pierrick Dube made his debut in the American Hockey League after signing with the Montreal Canadiens, posting an impressive 16 goals and 32 points in 44 games for the Laval Rocket.
Since then, he's bounced between the ECHL, AHL and NHL, appearing in three games for the Washington Capitals during the 2023/24 season before helping their AHL affiliate Hershey Bears to the Calder Cup in 2024/25.
However, due to a lack of interest in North America, the 25-year old went overseas this summer, inking a deal in the KHL, but now, after playing for two teams this season, it appears as though he's returning.
Dube signs with the Islanders following KHL stint
Across 28 games with two teams, Dube tallied 7 goals and 14 points this season, but in a shock move, he officially terminated his contract with SKA St. Petersburg to pursue other opportunities.
However, despite the rumours linking him to Switzerland, the former QMJHL star has used his links to New York Islanders Head Coach Patrick Roy and inked a deal to come to Long Island.
In his final AHL season back in 2024/25, Dube posted 19 goals and 40 points in 58 games played, so while there's a good chance he's not going to be a star at the NHL level, for a depth role and potentially a starring role in the AHL, this is a great, under the radar move from the Islanders.
