Alexandre Texier was a low-risk pickup for the Montreal Canadiens earlier this season, and now, they've handed the 26-year old a two-year extension.
Back in November, the St. Louis Blues made the shock decision to terminate the contract of forward Alexandre Texier, making him a free agent and eligible to sign anywhere he wants in the National Hockey League.
Given that he's still just 26-years of age, there was plenty of interest in him, but he was quick to sign with the young, up-and-coming Montreal Canadiens, a decision that has paid off in a big way.
Texier inks new deal with the Canadiens
After appearing in just 25 games with the Canadiens thus far, Texier has impressed the team that much that, on Wednesday, it was announced on social media by his agent Dan Milstein that he has signed a two-year extension with the team.
That extension carries an AAV of $2.5 million, and given that he's put up 7 goals and 16 points in that time, it's safe to say that it was a contract extension well earned by the former second-round pick.
With the Canadiens hoping to get healthy as the season rolls on, only time will tell if Texier can keep the role he's had since arriving in Montreal, but with the team now committing to him for an extra two years, it's likely that they want him in the same role as he has excelled in every way possible for them to this point.
Only time will tell if he can finally reach the full potential he's shown in the NHL with Columbus, St. Louis and now Montreal, but given how cheaply they acquired him, it's easy to see why the team are so thrilled with what they've gotten out of Texier thus far.
