Former Nordique, Ranger, Jason Lafrenière passes away at 59

Former Quebec Nordiques and New York Rangers forward Jason Lafrenière, who played almost 150 games in the NHL, has passed away at the age of 59.
The extended NHL family has suffered a loss today, as it was announced that former Quebec Nordiques and New York Rangers forward Jason Lafrenière, who played almost 150 games in the NHL, has passed away at the age of 59.
Jason made his NHL debut with Quebec on October 9, 1986. Four days later, on October 13, he scored his first career goal and would finish the game with two goals and one assist. Jason played two seasons with the Nordiques and went on to play for the New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning, respectively, finishing his NHL career with 34 goals and 87 points in 146 games played.
Jason proudly shared that his father, Roger Lafrenière (d. 2009), who also played in the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings and the St. Louis Blues, taught him everything he needed to know about being a hockey player.

Jason Lafrenière Was Taken In The 1985 NHL Entry Draft
Lafrenière was taken by the Quebec Nordiques with the 36th overall pick in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft while he was playing for the Hamilton Steelhawks of the OHL.
In addition to playing with the Nordiques, he would also spend time with the New York Rangers with a short stint included with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
He also played several seasons at various levels in the minors, and also played overseas.
In 146 career NHL games with the Nordiques, Rangers and Lightning, he had 87 points (34G, 53A).
