The salary of the top women's goalie in the world shocks fans
The PWHL is in its inaugural season and we now know how much its top goaltender makes and it has left fans shocked.
The PWHL's first season is off to a roaring success with six teams and fans all over the globe. It has set and broken many attendance records showing that fans are excited about the league.
In a recent rendition of the Stanley25 podcast, the salary of the top PWHL goaltender, Ann-Renée Desbiens, was discussed and the value has shocked fans.
"In your opinion, how much does a starting goaltender in the PWHL make?
[Maxime Truman answered that he believed the figure was around $50,000 to $60,000 per year]
It's a bit more! It's below Cole Caufield's salary for an advertisement ($100,000), but it's a bit more than that." - Jean Trudel While it is encouraging to hear that PWHL players can make close to six figures in the league's inaugural season, the majority of NHL players make 10x that estimated amount as the league minimum contract is worth $775,000.
However, this is certainly a step in the right direction as historically most women's hockey players have had to work day jobs on top of playing professionally. Hopefully, the PWHL salary can continue to rise as the years go on and be paid similar to what NHL players get paid.
