The Minnesota Wild, who already acquired defenseman Quinn Hughes in December, announced they've acquired defenseman Roman Schmidt tonight in a deal with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Only months after they acquired former Norris Trophy winner and Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes, Minnesota Wild GM Bill Guerin has swung another trade.
The Wild announced they've made a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers, acquiring defenseman Roman Schmidt for Boris Katchouk. Schmidt is a depth defenseman and is expected to report to the American Hockey League affiliate Iowa Wild.
Schmidt, who was taken with the 96th overall pick by the Tampa Bay Lighting in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, has yet to play in a single NHL game during his career.
He's split time this year in the American Hockey League between the Leigh Valley Phantoms and the Syracuse Crunch, and has only one assist in 29 games.
Katchouk, taken with the 44th overall pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft by the Lightning, has played for the Lightning, Chicago Blackhawks and Ottawa Senators during his NHL career.

The Wild Acquired Defensive Depth From The Flyers

Per Schmid's scouting report via Elite Prospects, he's able to fool the opposition when they close in on him along the boards.
He's all slow movements until an opponent gets in his range along the boards. Then, he strikes. His closeouts are forceful. He plasters attackers to the glass, pins them with his free hand, and knocks the puck away with his stick. - Elite Prospects

Schmidt has also played for the U.S. National U18 Team before playing for the OHL's Kitchener Rangers and later, the Kingston Frontenacs.
