New York Rangers franchise goaltender Igor Shesterkin raised eyebrows when he gave his answer regarding GM Chris Drury's letter to the frustrated fan base explaining their rebuilding intentions.
Amid another miserable year, the New York Rangers have already made numerous changes to their team, not the least of which was the trade of star forward Artemi Panarin to the Los Angeles Kings early last month.
They're also reportedly on the verge of trading veteran Vincent Trocheck before Friday's trade deadline, but one player who is reportedly considered an "untouchable" is goaltender Igor Shesterkin.
But Shesterkin caught many Rangers fans off guard when he said that he never read the letter that GM Chris Drury sent out to fans explaining that they were soon going to be parting ways with key players.
I just focus on my game. I just play a game at a time, and that's it. Honestly, I didn't read The Letter because I don't speak English. - Igor Shesterkin
The Rangers Recently Made Igor Shesterkin The Highest-Paid NHL Goalie In History
Shesterkin has emerged as one of the NHL's best goalies in recent years, and the Rangers rewarded him by making him the highest paid goalie in NHL history last season.
He signed an eight year deal with an AAV (average annual value) of $11.5 million.
But so far since signing the contract, Shesterkin hasn't made an appearance in the playoffs, and won't this year either.
It could be a long time before the Rangers are back in the playoffs, which will naturally lead some to wonder if Shesterkin regrets signing a long extension with a team about to rebuild.
