Rasmus Andersson trade rumors and Calgary Flames farewell vibes collided Saturday at the Saddledome.

Late in the night, cameras caught Andersson looking emotional as he saluted the crowd, then worked the bench for high-fives and hugs before stepping off. It didn't look like a routine lap.
The reason fans jumped straight to «last game» is the noise around him has gotten loud. Sportsnet's Eric Francis wrote this week that the time is right for Calgary to trade Andersson, with his contract ticking down.
Andersson has played well enough to make the moment sting. He's got 10 goals and 30 points in 48 games, huge offense for a right-shot defender, and ESPN's totals match Puckpedia's season line.

Rasmus Andersson and Calgary Flames goodbye hints

As a Flames fan, you could feel the building wondering if that was goodbye.
The business case is simple and cold. Andersson is 29, drafted 53rd overall in 2015, carries a $4.55 million cap hit, and he's set to become a UFA after 2025-26, with a limited no-trade list baked in.
What Calgary would lose is not just points, it's control. Andersson runs exits with his first pass, he walks the blue line to change shooting lanes, and he eats hard matchups so the rest of the pairings can breathe.
Even if a trade happens, it doesn't erase what he's meant in this era. Puckpedia credits him with 584 NHL games and 261 points, and he's been the type of defender coaches trust when the game gets messy.
If Saturday really was the start of a goodbye, it landed because it felt honest. The next milestone is whether Calgary decides to cash in soon, or lets the season play out with one of its steadiest righties still wearing the flaming C.
