Controversial former NHL coach Mitch Love gets new hockey job
Mitch Love was expected to be a future Head Coach in the NHL, but after a controversy cost him his job, he's now landed in the KHL.
Over the past few seasons, Mitch Love has shown immense potential as a coach, leading the AHL's Calgary Wranglers before taking an assistant coach role with the Washington Capitals.
However, he was fired earlier this season following an investigation by the National Hockey League revealed an incident off the ice that was unbecoming of someone in a role of power in the league.
Mitch Love lands on his feel in the KHL
Given the result of the investigation, many believed that Love's future in hockey was non-existent, especially in the NHL, but as we've seen in the past, he's now gotten a second chance following the latest announcement.
That announcement has revealed that Love will now replace former New York Rangers bench boss Gerard Gallant as the Head Coach of the KHL's Shanghai Dragons following a tough start to their 2025/26 campaign.
This isn't the first time that the KHL have taken on a player or coach that has been shunned by the league for behavioural issues, and now, Love has the opportunity to prove that he can be a Head Coach on the highest level as he potentially looks to force his way back to the NHL.
Only time will tell whether or not Love has a future as a Head Coach or even as an assistant once more in the National Hockey League, but for now, he's going to try and prove himself in the KHL as someone with the abilities to coach at a high level.
