A Rasmus Andersson trade appears to be imminent, but despite speculation, the Calgary Flames are set to play their star defenseman on Saturday.
The Calgary Flames are expected to be sellers after a dreadful start to the 2025/26 season as they currently sit in 30th in the league standings, with the team likely to move the likes of Rasmus Andersson, Blake Coleman and Nazem Kadri.
Recently, the temperature has turned up on trade speculation surrounding Andersson specifically, with talk on Friday night linking him to a trade with the Boston Bruins.
Andersson to play for Calgary on Saturday
Despite all of this talk of how close a trade possibly is, a deal is not imminent, with Elliotte Friedman now reporting that the star blue liner is set to play for the Flames on Saturday as they take on the New York Islanders.
That doesn't mean that a trade may not happen during or even after the game, and given how close things got with Boston, there's a very good chance that either that deal goes through or another team steps up to take him away from them.
This season, Andersson has been arguably the Flames best player, posting 10 goals and 29 points in 47 games played, and despite the teams struggles, he's been a star on both ends of the ice for them.
Ultimately, it makes sense for the Flames to get a deal done ahead of the Olympic break, and if the return is anything close to what has been rumoured in the deal with the Boston Bruins, the Flames need to get a deal done as they look to continue their rebuild moving forward.
