Leon Draisaitl is key for the Edmonton Oilers, but in a recent statement, the Oilers have revealed he's headed home for personal reasons.
The Edmonton Oilers are once again off to an impressive start in 2025/26, and led by the superstar duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, they once again have hopes of a Stanley Cup run this season.
Heading into the Olympic break, this team is sitting in second place in the Pacific Division, and if they can stay healthy, the sky is once again the limit for this squad.
Leon Draisaitl set to take a personal break
With just a few weeks heading into the Olympic break, the organization have now taken to social media to post a statement about Draisaitl, who is set to take a leave of absence to return to Germany to be with his family.
In the statement, the team have asked for privacy on the matter, and while it's not expected to be a long-term absence, the expectation is that he will return to the team late next week.
This season, No. 29 has once again dominated, posting 25 goals and 67 points in 48 games played, and with both he and McDavid in the lineup, this is a team that's more than capable of their third straight trip to the Stanley Cup Finals.
For now though, the hope is that things are fine with Draisaitl's family, and while the team would love to have him in their lineup, given how much he means to the organization, they will be patient before he returns to the lineup ahead of the Olympic break.
