Senators defenseman Jake Sanderson throws goaltending under the bus after loss to Montreal

Ottawa Senators defenseman Jake Sanderson had some choice words for goaltender Merilainen after their loss to the divisional foe Montreal Canadiens last night.
The Ottawa Senators have been forced to go to their backups because of the absence of starter Linus Ullmark, who took a leave of absence from the team and, even though he's been back at practice recently, there isn't a timetable for his return to game action.
On Saturday night, the Senators lost 6-5 in OT to the divisional foe Montreal Canadiens, giving up a two-goal lead in the third period.
Senators goalie Levi Merilainen let in six goals on just 19 shots, and defenseman Jake Sanderson called him out after the game for his less than stellar performance.
I think Leevi made some good saves. But I think, at the end of the day, you've got to make more than 10 saves to win a game. - Jake Sanderson
Senators coach Travis Green said that he felt bad for Merilainen but also didn't exactly defend him.
It's hard to give him a pass. I'm sure he'd like to have one or two back. I feel bad for him. - Travis Green
Senators Forward Tim Stutzle Defended His Goaltender
Coming to the defense of Merilainen was forward Tim Stutzle, who confirmed that he and the Senators have his back.
I don't know why we're talking about this. Leevi's been playing great. He's been playing a lot of hockey. It's always every time somebody scores, everybody blames the goalie. But we have his back. We've got to play better in front of him and don't give up high-danger scoring chances. - Tim Stutzle
Regardless, the Senators hope that Ullmark will be able to come back soon.
