Jonathan Toews Officially Listening to Offers for an NHL Return
Jonathan Toews has been out of the NHL for two seasons now, but the former Blackhawks captain is now officially eyeing a return ahead of the 2025/26 NHL season.
The NHL off-season is almost upon us, and while all eyes are on the 2025 NHL Draft and the free agency class highlighted by
Mitch Marner, another top name could become an intriguing option for all 32 teams.
That option would be former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews, who has reportedly been eyeing a return to the NHL over the past 12 months, with his agent making it clear that he'll return to the league in 2025/26.
According to Pierre LeBrun, Toews is 100% focused on a return to the NHL, and at 37-years of age, the same age as
Sidney Crosby and younger than the likes of Alex Ovechkin and
Brent Burns, he may have some good y ears still left in him at the NHL level.
Toews last saw NHL action back in April of 2023, missing the last two seasons, but after getting away from the action and getting healthy, he's reportedly feeling better than he has in years, with confidence he can again be a difference maker in the league.
In his last year, Toews notched 16 goals and 31 points in 51 games for a bad Blackhawks team, and while he's likely not going to slot back in as the 1 or perhaps even 2C for a good team, as a middle-six forward, he could still be incredibly valuable to a team.
At this point, it's unclear what the interest levels in Toews are around the league, but Darren Dreger has already noted that the Winnipeg Jets, the hometown team of Toews will be very interested, so expect to see at least a few more teams join the race to land the veteran.
