Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid are considered two of the generational talents in the modern era of the NHL. Crosby has won 3 Stanley Cups. McDavid is yet to win a Stanley Cup but Crosby believes that McDavid could reach a milestone he never has.
Crosby Predicts McDavid Will Reach A Crazy Milestone
Last season Connor McDavid was able to reach 150 points for the first time in his career. This milestone was thought to be impossible in the modern era of the NHL. McDavid was able to do it though and Sidney Crosby doesn't think he's done reaching point milestones.
In an interview with NHL.com's Mike Zeisberger Crosby was asked about McDavid potentially reaching 170 points in the future.
"I mean, I didn't think 150 was going to be in the cards for him but he found a way to get there," Crosby said. "So, I don't think anything is out of the question for him as far as numbers are concerned."
"He just finds a way to find another level time and time again, so I would never bet against him."
Crosby is a believer in Connor McDavid who has been defying expectations every season since entering the league. A player getting 170 points has not happened since Mario Lemieux did it in 1988-89.
McDavid Looking To Reach New Heights With The Oilers In 2023-24
Connor McDavid is in for a big year along with his Edmonton Oilers. The expectations are as high as ever and a Stanley Cup championship is the standard. McDavid will also be looking to improve personally.
The Oilers will need McDavid to be at his best this season to be contenders. After a career-high in points, McDavid will be looking to one-up himself. While 170 points is a lofty goal it is one that is attainable for a player as talented as McDavid is.
Playoff success is the most important thing for McDavid and the Oilers though. With second overall pick in the 2015 Draft, Jack Eichel getting his Stanley Cup last season questions are starting to mount about McDavid. Many hockey fans are wondering if he can play winning hockey when it truly matters.
All of the great players win championships and show up in the playoffs. To this point that hasn't been the case for McDavid but 2023-24 is a perfect opportunity to flip the narrative.
