Elias Pettersson finally had a big breakout year in 2022-23, and now with a contract extension looming, he's made his demand clear to the Canucks front office.
Last year, Petterson had career highs in goals (39), assists (63) and points (102), and now, he's in the drivers seat when it comes to an extension, with talks reportedly already beginning.
Unsurprisingly, there's one main thing that Pettersson is looking for in extension talks, and that's the team success that the Canucks have failed to have through his five-year tenure thus far.
According to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, that team success could be the determining factor for Pettersson staying or leaving, putting plenty of pressure on this team to perform in 2023-24.
With so much talent, proven production and a bright future still ahead of him at 24-years of age, Pettersson would be a much sought after free agent, so if the Canucks can't make a playoff push this season, a trade becomes that much more likely.
