The Maple Leafs need to make some moves, and because of Dennis Hildeby, it appears as though they may be ready to trade one of their top goaltenders.
This season has been an up-and-down one for the Toronto Maple Leafs thus far, and while they've built some momentum heading into the Olympic break, they're still on the outside looking in at a Stanley Cup Playoffs spot in the Eastern Conference.
With hopes of making it back to the post-season, rumours have been circling this team for the entirety of the season, and now, it appears as though they may be ready to make a move.
Joseph Woll or Anthony Stolarz on the way out?
One strength of this team in recent years has been their goaltending with the duo of Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Woll, but unfortunately, in 2025/26 specifically, the duo have struggled to stay on the ice.
That opened up a spot for Dennis Hildeby on the roster, and after posting a 2.84 GAA and a .912 save percentage in 19 games with the team this season, it appears as though he may be winning people over in Toronto.
According to Elliotte Friedman on the latest episode of Oilers Now, the front office have considered moving one of their top two goaltenders to make room for Hildeby as a full-time backup at the NHL level, and with other spots to fill, moving one of their top assets may be the play.
As of right now, there are contending teams out there that would give up assets for a good starting goaltender, and if the team truly see the 24-year old Hildeby as an NHL ready goaltender, it would not be a shock to see them use one of their top assets to acquire a piece that they need moving forward.
