Team Canada have a star studded roster at the Olympics, but now they've confirmed a controversial decision with Jordan Binnington named their starter.
The 2026 Olympic Games are officially upon us, and with games set to begin on Wednesday, the return of best-on-best hockey will have the eyes of the entire sporting world upon Milan.
Team Canada are a team that has entered the tournament expecting nothing less than a gold medal, and with a star studded roster that's led by Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar among others, this is a team full of nothing but confidence.
However, they do have one major weakness because of selection choices from their front office, with many questioning the decision to bring Jordan Binnington after he posted an .864 save percentage in 32 games played thus far in 2025/26.
Jordan Binnington named Canada's starter
Sure, he led the team to a gold medal back at the Four Nations Face Off, but with the likes of Logan Thompson there on the team as well, naming him to the roster was already a questionable call.
Now, the pressure is on Canada even more, as Binnington has officially been named the starter for the teams first matchup of the tournament on Wednesday against a highly touted Czechia team.
Sure, given the star power on this roster, there's a chance that he can either step up or they can overcome his struggles, but with better goaltenders at their disposal, this is a decision that may be questioned for years to come if things don't go Canada's way at this tournament.
