Gavin McKenna's future at Penn State was up in the air, but he's been cleared to play for the team over the weekend as he deals with the consequences of his arrest.
Last week, one of the biggest stories in the hockey world revolved around Gavin McKenna, with his future officially up in the air following an off-ice incident that had the entire world talking.
Recently, McKenna and Penn State got some great news on the situation, and now, with the team looking to finish the 2025/26 campaign strong, they've gotten some even better news on their star winger.
McKenna cleared to play for Penn State
According to recent reports, McKenna is now cleared to play for Penn State as things take care of themselves off the ice, with plenty of NHL scouts set to be in attendance as the Nittany Lions take on Michigan over the weekend.
While McKenna isn't completely in the clear of legal troubles, this is certainly a good sign, and while things are still going to have to be worked out, the belief is that this whole situation shouldn't effect his draft stock too much heading into the 2026 NHL Draft.
This year for Penn State, the former Medicine Hat Tiger has tallied 11 goals and 32 points in 24 games played, and after a slow start, he's figured things out at the NCAA level, and given that he's still just 18-years of age, the future remains very bright.
Only time will tell how things play out off the ice, but for now, McKenna's 2025/26 season continues, with the hockey world set to be watching as the potential future No. 1 overall pick takes the ice once more for Penn State.
