Alex Ovechkin's career is winding down, but now he's revealed he'd like to play for one other team outside of Washington before he retires.
This past off-season, there were rumours about Alex Ovechkin's potential retirement following the 2025/26 season, and while he's clearly got plenty left in the tank still, his career is certainly winding down.
After spending his entire National Hockey League career with the Washington Capitals, many expect him to retire as a one-team player, having captained them for over a decade, leading them to the Stanley Cup back in 2018.
However, he may look to play for another team outside of the NHL, and recently with the Olympic break taking place, he has assessed his future, making a shock statement on it.
Ovechkin reveals he wants to return to the KHL
While there's been rumours that Ovi would like to finish his career in Russia in the KHL, it's never been substantiated, but now, he has officially revealed he wants to end his career with Dynamo Moscow.
I really want to come back and end my career at Dynamo Moscow.
Given that he played four years for Dynamo Moscow before being drafted by the Capitals, it's easy to see why he wants to end his career there, as he has never been shy in expressing his love and admiration for his home country and his former team.
Ultimately, at 40-years of age, Ovi can't have much left in the tank, but whether he retires from the NHL this summer or three years from now, he's made it clear he has one goal left beyond the NHL.
