A new report from Arthur Staple of The Athletic has announced that he expects former top-five pick Kaapo Kakko to be scratched by the New York Rangers for Game 2.

Kaapo Kakko has had a turbulent career since being drafted second overall in the 2019 NHL Draft behind Jack Hughes. Today Kaapo Kakko's career has hit a new all-time low as he is expected to be scratched for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

Won't know until tonight but it sure looks like Kakko is a scratch for G2

#NYR didn't do any line specific drills, but based on colors this is what it looked like.

The top-six was in blue, the bottom six is in white, Jack Roslovic was in a white jersey.

Kaapo Kakko was in a blue jersey and not in the top-six.

The expectation comes after several games in which Kaapo Kakko has struggled to live up to the potential that many saw in him during his draft year. In 11 postseason games so far this season Kaapo Kakko has been able to provide just 2 points. Fans have been calling for this move for a while and now it will finally possibly happen.

Sorry, but it has to be said:

While playing FLA (a big and physical team), Matt Rempe and Adam Edström should be in the lineup.

Jimmy Vesey and Kaapo Kakko can take their respective seats in the press box.

It is expected that Matt Rempe will draw back into the lineup for the New York Rangers.

It looks like there's at least a chance Kaapo Kakko will be scratched for Game 2 in favor of Matt Rempe - a move that would make headlines and have potential ripple effects, but how much would it really affect the outcome?

The New York Rangers have not released their official lineup so this could potentially change. Warmups for tonight's game will be the true indicator to see if Kaapo Kakko truly has reached a new rock bottom in his career.
