The Florida Panthers have been severely shorthanded this year, but they have now released a timeline for when they can expect assistant captain Matthew Tkachuk back in the lineup after summer surgery.

In their second straight year of being the defending Stanley Cup champions, the Florida Panthers have been nowhere near healthy, as they've had to continue on without multiple important players.
They're without captain Aleksander Barkov potentially for the entire season after he suffered an ACL/MCL injury during training camp, and were also guaranteed to be without Matthew Tkachuk for the first several months after he underwent surgery during the summer.
But the Panthers have now released a timeline for Tkachuk's potential return. Per Panthers analyst David Dwork, Tkachuk has started skating and could return next month in time for the Winter Classic in early January.
I'm hearing that Matthew Tkachuk has started skating and that he could be back in the Panthers lineup sometime next month, in time to play in the Winter Classic.
Last year, Tkachuk had 57 points (22G, 35A) in 52 games.

The Florida Panthers Are The Walking Wounded

Not only are the Panthers without Barkov and Tkachuk, but they have suffered multiple additional injuries to important players.
They lost Eetu Luostarinen, who is week to week after a reported accident during a BBQ. They lost Cole Schwindt to a broken arm, and Dmitry Kulikov to a shoulder injury; both players are going to miss multiple months.
Even so, the Panthers likely won't have very many opposition fans feeling sorry for them considering they've won the last two Stanley Cups.
