The Maple Leafs have been trying to move Nick Robertson for quite some time, and now Elliotte Friedman details a failed trade involving the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Dating back a few years now, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been shopping young forward Nick Robertson, but given the lack of takers and the cheap production he provides the team, he is yet to be dealt.
Coming into the 2025/26 campaign, his name was still out there in trade talks, as he reportedly wanted a larger role within the organization, and with 5 goals and 11 points in 16 games played this season, it's easy to see why.

Elliotte Friedman details failed trade involving Robertson and the Columbus Blue Jackets

On the latest edition of the 32 Thoughts podcast, NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that recently, the Maple Leafs made a major offer to the Columbus Blue Jackets involving Robertson, as they looked to acquire a disgruntled forward.
They offered him to Columbus for Chinakhov, Columbus said no.
Despite that impressive start to the 2025/26 season, the Blue Jackets clearly turned Toronto down when they offered Robertson one-for-one for talented winger Yegor Chinahkov, who publicly requested a trade from Columbus this off-season.
It's unclear why Columbus turned down this deal, but with Chinahkov posting just 2 goals and 4 points in 14 games this season, it would have been an opportunity for them to land a much more productive forward.
Ultimately, it's more likely than not that both teams are going to part ways with the players in this deal at some point in the near future, so while this deal failed, don't be shocked to see these two teams talk business again.
