The Dallas Stars are one of the hottest teams in the entire National Hockey League, and on Tuesday night they ran into another red-hot squad in the New York Islanders, and early on and throughout the game, things got rather physical.
That all escalated when Stars forward Mikko Rantanen was found guilty of boarding Islanders star Alexander Romanov, sending him crashing into the boards as he was given a five-minute major and a
game misconduct.
Mikko Rantanen could potentially face a suspension from the NHL's Department of Player Safety
Clearly, the opposing bench wasn't too happy with the situation, as Head Coach Patrick Roy had words for Rantanen as he departed the ice, with things getting incredibly intense between the two teams.
Usually, when a player is assessed an ejection and a game misconduct, a suspension or at the very least a hearing with the NHL's Department of Player Safety is on the way, and given how dangerous a spot this was for Rantanen, there's a high chance that he feels some type of punishment from the DoPS.
These two teams will face off again later in the 2025/26 season, and when that happens, it's safe to say that the Islanders will remember this incident and potentially be out for revenge, and while Romanov was able to leave the ice under his own power, it's this type of move that the NHL are looking to get rid of as it's incredibly dangerous for everyone involved.
