John Beecher was waived on Monday, and now the 24-year old forward surprisingly been claimed by the Calgary Flames.
We've seen some surprising waiver moves already in the 2025/26 season, and on Monday, the Boston Bruins added to that list,
officially waiving former first-round pick John Beecher.
The hope was that Beecher would pass through waivers and find consistent playing time with the Providence Bruins in the AHL, but now, the 24-year old has officially
been claimed.
Calgary Flames claim John Beecher
Last season, Beecher got his longest run in the NHL to date, appearing in 78 games for the Bruins, and given that his time mostly came in the bottom-six, it's no surprise that he ended the year with just 3 goals and 11 points.
However, given his size at 6-foot-3, 223 pounds, he has potential as a power forward, and according to reports, the Calgary Flames are the team to take a chance on Beecher, as they have officially claimed the former first-round pick.
This should come as no surprise given that this is the exact style of player that the Flames want in their organization, and given the untapped potential that many see in Beecher, he'll be given every opportunity to succeed in Calgary.
Only time will tell whether or not Beecher can succeed in the NHL, as he's been given several opportunities with little success to this point in Boston, but with great size, physicality and goal scoring ability, if the Flames find the right role for him, hopes are high that Beecher can become an every day, consistent player in the NHL.
