Ottawa Senators forward
Nick Cousins is now officially considered a repeat offender by the NHL, but not for a suspendible/dirty action against an opponent.
But Cousins has now twice been penalized for
diving/embellishment, and the NHL has fined him $2,000 US as per the rulebook.
The news was first reported by analyst Chris Johnston of TSN:
Nick Cousins has been fined $2,000 by the NHL after being cited for two diving/embellishment infractions this season.
The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
Per NHL rules, players are first assessed a warning, and then fined $2,000 on the second offense, $3,000 on the third offense, and $4,000 for a fourth offense. A fifth offense would come with a $5,000 fine as well as a fine for the respective player's team coach.
His first offense came in October, and his most recent offense was against the Utah Mammoth earlier this month.
Nick Cousins Is Playing His Second Year With The Ottawa Senators
Cousins was taken with the 68th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers, where he would play until he was traded in 2017 to the Arizona Coyotes.
Cousins has bounced around the NHL throughout his career, which has seen stops with the Montreal Canadiens, Vegas Golden Knights, Nashville Predators and Florida Panthers.
He won his first Stanley Cup with the Panthers in 2024, and then signed with their divisional foe Senators during the summer.
So far this year, he has four points (3G, 1A) in 19 games.
