Nick Robertson's name has been in trade talks for years in Toronto, and now speculation is heating up again as he wants a larger role in the NHL.

For years now, we've heard speculation on the future of Nick Robertson, but despite all of that, he's remained a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, even after a down year in 2024/25.
Now, it's clear that he's not getting a bigger role, and after signing a short-term extension, all signs are now pointing to the two parties finally parting way in the near future.

Nick Robertson Seeking Bigger Role, May Be Traded This Season

On the latest episode of Insider Trading on TSN, Darren Dreger addressed Robertson's future, and unsurprisingly, it appears as though both the Maple Leafs and the player are wanting to move on.
He's hoping for a larger role, opportunity in the NHL; Treliving has recently talked with clubs that may have some interest; maybe it's time to give him a fresh start somewhere else.
The reason behind that is Robertson wanting a bigger role in the National Hockey League, but with Toronto having Maccelli, Cowan, Knies and Nylander all ahead of him in the top-six, until he starts producing at that level, he's not going to get an expanded role in Toronto.
The only logical outcome then is for a trade between Toronto and another team, with Dreger reporting that Brad Treliving has looked around the NHL at a potential trade partner, but as of right now, clearly nothing has come to fruition.
It seems as though we've been hearing Robertson trade rumours for years at this point, and with the player clearly wanting to move on, this season may finally be the time that a deal gets done.
