Nick Foligno is a key piece of the current Blackhawks team, but now he's taken a leave of absence due to health concerns within his family.
The Chicago Blackhawks are off to a steady start in 2025/26, and with the team looking to take a giant leap forward in their rebuild, hopes were high coming into this season despite the roster still lacking the depth of talent needed to compete in the NHL.
The biggest positive for Chicago this season has been the play of their young stars like
Connor Bedard and
Frank Nazar, but that doesn't discount the value that their key veterans bring to this team.
Captain Foligno To Step Away From Chicago
Unfortunately, the team have now announced that captain Nick Foligno will be
stepping away from the team for a while, stating that he wants to be with his family as his daughter recovers from surgery.
Blackhawks captain Nick Foligno is taking a brief leave of absence as his daughter undergoes follow-up surgery related to her congenital heart disease.
Nick, nor the Blackhawks will have any further comments at this time.
While hockey is incredibly important as a way for Foligno to make a living, family will always come first, and for him to put his family above his teammates shows great strength and commitment to his family, and should be commended.
Only time will tell when Foligno is set to rejoin the team, but the organization appear to have their full support behind the captain, with the front office clearly happy for him to take as long as he needs to be their for his family before returning to his team and the NHL.
