Sportsnet appears set to keep Ron MacLean behind the desk for Hockey Night in Canada next season, but two of the network's other marquee hockey voices are still working through their futures.

According to Jonah Sigel, MacLean will return for Rogers' Saturday night hockey coverage barring the unforeseen.
At the same time, neither Elliotte Friedman nor Kevin Bieksa has finalized a new contract with the network as the 2026-27 season approaches.
Sounds like Ron MacLean will return to Roger's Saturday night hockey, barring the unforeseen. Same time neither Elliotte's or Kevin's contracts have been finalized as of yet. Some talk about one or both seeking to do work with Amazon too, but nothing done with either.

What It Means for Sportsnet's Panel

MacLean has anchored Hockey Night in Canada intermissions since 1986, and his continued presence signals Sportsnet wants stability at the top of its broadcast even as it navigates a turbulent offseason that already saw Kelly Hrudey let go.
Friedman, widely regarded as the league's top insider, remains a central figure for the network through his reporting and the 32 Thoughts podcast.
Bieksa has become a fan favorite analyst since retiring from the NHL. Losing either would be a notable shift for Sportsnet's on-air identity.

Amazon Interest Adds Intrigue

The mention of possible interest from Amazon adds another layer to the situation.
Amazon has steadily expanded its sports broadcasting footprint in recent years, and any exploratory talks involving Friedman or Bieksa would be worth monitoring as their Sportsnet negotiations play out.
Nothing is finalized on either front, and Sigel's reporting stops short of suggesting either side is close to a deal, but the uncertainty is notable given how central both figures are to Sportsnet's hockey coverage.
This is a developing story, and details around Friedman's and Bieksa's contract status should be confirmed as more reporting emerges.
