Recently, the Red Wings and Rangers made NHL headlines after a major brawl, but now the NHL's DoPS have revealed there will be no punishments.

The New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings are two of the NHL's Original Six teams, and recently, they went to battle once more, but this wasn't a normal matchup between the two.
The Red Wings eventually came out on top by a score of 2-1, but it was a major brawl between the two teams that stole headlines, with veteran goaltender Jonathan Quick sparking a melee.
That came after the final whistle, as he took exception to Mason Appleton shooting the puck at the Rangers empty net once the whistle had blown, with people all over social media talking about this, with some arguing this type of rivalry, physicality and intensity is what makes the league great.

No punishments to be handed out to the Red Wings or Rangers

Now, it's been revealed by the NHL's Department of Player Safety that there will be no underlying punishments for either of these teams, despite all of the action that took place between them after the whistle.
Thankfully, this is a result of cooler heads prevailing in the office, as it would have been very easy for them to come down on both these teams with fines and suspensions, but given that this is part of the NHL, it was the right move to not do anything here for the DoPS.
That doesn't mean that the NHL will be encouraging brawls like this, but every now and then, tensions build and tempers flare, and that's part of hockey, with the NHL content to let the teams sort this one out.
