The Senators and Flyers are both young, up-and-coming teams, and now on Monday they've made a surprising and very intriguing one-for-one trade.
The 2025/26 NHL season has been full of shocks, surprises, great games, highlights and drama, and with so much of the year to go, this is shaping up as one of the best NHL seasons in recent memory.
We're yet to see a shock, blockbuster trade however, but on Monday we did see an intriguing
one-for-one trade between conference rivals in the Philadelphia Flyers and Ottawa Senators.
Senators and Flyers complete one-for-one deal
As announced on social media, the deal became official on Monday, with the Flyers not only acquiring Maxence Guenette from the Senators, but also signing him to a one-year, two-way extension.
In Guenette, the Flyers are getting a 24-year old with just 8 games of NHL experience under his belt, with the talented blue liner putting up 9 goals and 23 points in 58 AHL games with the Belleville Senators a year ago.
As for the Senators, they've acquired experienced blue liner
Dennis Gilbert, who has played in Philadelphia, Buffalo, Chicago, Colorado, Calgary and as recently as 2024/25, Ottawa.
This season, Gilbert has just one assist in six games with the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms, but given that he has 111 games of NHL experience, the 29-year old is a much better fit for the Senators.
Ultimately, this is a low-risk move for both teams, but with Ottawa wanting NHL experience on their blue line and Philadelphia happy to take a chance on future talent, this is a great move for both squads.
