Elliotte Friedman shares a bold prediction linking Erik Karlsson to the Maple Leafs, reuniting him with Mats Sundin and Daniel Alfredsson in Toronto.

Elliotte Friedman is no stranger to dropping jaws on the 32 Thoughts Podcast, and his latest one has Leafs fans buzzing.
According to Friedman, someone recently pitched him a prediction for the 2026-27 season that sounds almost too wild to be real.
Erik Karlsson, ending up in Toronto.
"Erik Karlsson to Toronto."

- Elliotte Friedman
The way Friedman framed it was simple but pointed.
He said the pitch to him was basically this trio together in blue and white: Mats Sundin, Daniel Alfredsson, Erik Karlsson, Toronto.
Given everything that has already happened around the Leafs organization this year, its not hard to see why that idea has legs.

Why the pairing already feels believable

Sundin is now working in Toronto's front office as a senior advisor to hockey operations, while Alfredsson made the once unthinkable jump to become the Leafs associate head coach.
Two men who spent years as the faces of one of hockeys most bitter rivalries are now on the same side of the ice in Toronto.
Adding Karlsson, who has strong ties to both through international hockey and mutual respect built over more than a decade, would only add fuel to that storyline.
Friedman first floated this on the podcast, and the clip has been making the rounds since.

Would it actually work for Toronto

Karlsson has spent this season fielding trade speculation while with Pittsburgh, and his contract situation makes any move complicated.
Toronto would need serious cap flexibility and likely some form of salary retention to make numbers work.
Still, Friedman himself stressed this started as someone elses idea passed along to him, not a report of momentum or talks.
For now its speculation, but its the kind of speculation that gets an entire fan base talking well before free agency or the trade deadline even arrives.
