Elias Pettersson trade buzz grows as Oilers get linked to Canucks star in bold proposal involving Isaac Howard and a 2027 pick.

Elias Pettersson trade rumors are heating up again, and this time the Edmonton Oilers are the team getting linked to the Vancouver Canucks center in a scenario that has fans buzzing across the league.
A hypothetical framework making the rounds would send Pettersson to Edmonton with $3 million in retained salary, bringing his cap hit down to a much more manageable $8.6 million.
In return, Vancouver would land a package built around Isaac Howard, Trent Frederic, Ty Emberson, Beau Akey and a conditional 2027 second round pick that upgrades to a first if the Oilers win the Stanley Cup in 2026-27.
Oilers receive: Elias Pettersson ($3M retained)

Canucks receive: Isaac Howard, Trent Frederic, Ty Emberson, Beau Akey + conditional 2027 2nd*

*Becomes a 1st if Edmonton wins the Cup.

Why Edmonton might consider the gamble

At full price, taking on an $11.6 million cap hit for a player coming off a rough stretch is a tough sell.
But at $8.6 million, the math starts to look different.
Pettersson is only 27 and was a 102 point center not that long ago.
Slotting him alongside Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl gives Edmonton another dangerous look up front, and the Oilers front office knows their championship window will not stay open forever.

What Vancouver would be banking on

For the Canucks, this is about restocking the cupboard.
Howard gives them a young, cost controlled offensive piece, Emberson adds an NHL ready defenseman, Akey brings another prospect into the pipeline, and Frederic helps balance the money going out.
The conditional pick only sweetens things if Edmonton actually goes on a run.
It all comes down to belief. Would the Oilers be willing to bet big on Pettersson rediscovering his old form, or is the price simply too steep for a player who has not looked like his best self in Vancouver lately.
