The New York Islanders have made a few trades already, and now General Manager Mathieu Darche has promised to be aggressive in his latest interview.
The New York Islanders future looked bleak at best following the end of the 2024/25 campaign, but in less than a year, things have been turned completely on their heads on Long Island.
Firstly, they landed the No. 1 overall pick and the immense talent of Matthew Schaefer, and then with two other first-round picks, they restocked their prospect cupboard and now the future looks very bright.
Not only that, but behind Schaefer and their biggest stars, this is a team competing in 2025/26, as they have a record of 29-19-5, as they currently sit in third place in the Metropolitan Division, six points up on the next closest team in the division.
GM Darche set to be aggressive ahead of the deadline
Already this season, they've made two trades, with the latest seeing them land veteran Ondrej Palat, and with the team believing they're a contender, they may not be done.
In a recent interview, General Manager Mathieu Darche referred back to his time working under Julien Brisebois, stating that he's not afraid to be aggressive and move first-round picks for the right situation.
I worked with Julien BriseBois, so you know I don't mind moving first-round picks. - Darche
As of right now, it's unclear what moves the Islanders could be looking to make, but with the team right in the thick of it in the Stanley Cup Playoffs race, don't be shocked to see one or maybe more than one deal coming in the next few weeks.
