The New Jersey Devils have made a trade with an unlikely trading partner, sending Ondrej Palat to the divisional foe New York Islanders tonight.
There is another Metropolitan Division NHL Trade to report.
There had been rampant speculation surrounding veteran New Jersey Devils forward Ondrej Palat about a potential trade, and that was given additional fuel tonight when he was not on the ice for the Devils pregame skate against the Winnipeg Jets at Prudential Center.
Palat is in fact now officially on the move, and he won't have to travel very far. He's been traded to the New York Islanders for Maxim Tsyplakov, a third round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, and a sixth round pick in the 2027 NHL Entry Draft.
So far this year with the Devils, which is his third with the team after signing a UFA deal from the Tampa Bay Lightning, Palat has 10 points (4G, 6A) in 51 games.
Ondrej Palat Is A Two Time Stanley Cup Winner With The Tampa Bay Lightning
Palat was taken by the Lightning with the 208th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, where he would play the first several years of his NHL career.
He won back to back Stanley Cups in a Lightning sweater in 2020 and 2021, and then helped Tampa Bay get back to a third straight Cup Final, though they fell short against the Colorado Avalanche.
After another year with the Lightning, he left the team and signed a five year deal in 2022 with the Devils with an AAV (average annual value) of $6 million.
In 876 career NHL games with the Lightning and Devils, Palat has 515 points (181G, 334A).
