Matthew Tkachuk is back for the Florida Panthers after missing several months following surgery, and he recently described his self-imposed rule in fights.
Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk recently returned to the ice after having already missed the entire year because of offseason surgery he underwent after their second successful Stanley Cup win.
Even though they lost against the San Jose Sharks in a recent game at home, it was highlighted by the first goalie fight since 2020. Florida's Sergei Bobrovsky and San Jose's Alex Nedeljkovic duked it out, which Tkachuk later described on his podcast as the loudest reaction in a regular season game he's been in while also saying what his self-imposed rule is during bouts.
I honestly think that was the loudest regular-season building I’ve ever been part of. I think that goalie should just if you’re going to fight, fight the goalie, but don’t come in on the player and throw some blockers. I get it, he was like to trying to stick up for him, but that’s one of my no-no’s.
I just saw Bobby get the little heel toe going, and I’m like ‘okay, we’re down 3-1 in the game, it probably midway in the third, it’s not looking good that we’re win this game.' Bobby did the greatest thing I’ve ever seen him.”

So far in his return, Tkachuk has three assists in five games.
Matthew Tkachuk Underwent Surgery In August
Matthew Tkachuk underwent surgery to repair a torn adductor muscle and a sports hernia, both of which he played through during Florida's second run to the Stanley Cup last spring.
He's now in his fourth year with the Panthers after being acquired in the blockbuster trade in 2022 with the Calgary Flames that also involved Jonathan Huberdeau and MacKenzie Weegar.
In 647 career NHL games, Tkachuk has 639 points (240G, 399A).
