Top New Jersey Devils forward Jack Hughes was injured when he reportedly accidentally cut himself during a team dinner, and is out indefinitely.

It's one thing for a professional hockey player to get hurt on the ice and cause a significant setback for his team, and it's another for a player to get hurt in a completely non-hockey related activity.
New Jersey Devils star forward Jack Hughes somehow suffered a cut to his hand in what sources are calling a "fluke accident" during a recent team dinner.
Per NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman, not many more details are known:
It's an incredibly unfortunate story, but word came Friday that Jack Hughes suffered a hand injury while at a team dinner Thursday night.

Exact details are unknown at this time, but it's believed he slipped and cut his hand, in what multiple sources are calling a «fluke accident.»

So far this year, Hughes had 20 points (10G, 10A) in 17 games played for the Devils, who are one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference.
If Hughes is forced to miss any significant length of time, it could prove costly for the Devils, who want to maintain as high a seed as possible in their division and the Conference.

Jack Hughes Had A Significant Injury Last Season

This isn't the first time in Hughes' career that he will have to miss time with an injury.
He was tangled up with fellow American 4 Nations Faceoff teammate Jack Eichel during a game against the Vegas Golden Knights and fell into the boards.
Hughes was soon ruled out for the rest of the year, and he wasn't able to play in the playoffs against the Carolina Hurricanes in the ECQF, which New Jersey lost in five games.
