Lane Hutson's future in the NHL is incredibly bright, and now, the Montreal Canadiens have locked him in long-term with a massive extension.
Last season was a breakout year for Lane Hutson, with the talented young defenseman winning the Calder Trophy as the NHL's Rookie of the Year on the back of 6 goals and 66 points in 82 games played.
Unsurprisingly, given how promising this young core is, rumours began this off-season that the team were looking to lock him in long-term, and now, they've done just that.
Hutson signs massive deal to stay in Montreal
Despite reports that the two sides needed to take a break after
things got emotional, the team announced on Monday morning that the two sides have struck a deal on a long-term extension.
That extension runs for eight years, carrying a salary cap hit of $8.85 million per season, and given the rising salary cap, it's safe to say that this is a great deal for both the team and the player.
At just 21-years of age, Hutson has a future as bright as any player in the entire NHL, and while he's got just one assist through three games this season, the team believe his talent and his class will shine through in the long-term.
Given that we've seen the likes of
Luke Hughes and
Jackson Lacombe sign similar deals in recent weeks, this is a steal of a deal for Montreal, and if Hutson can build on his 66 point campaign in 2024/25, it's safe to say that this may age as one of the best contracts in the entire NHL.
